The archeological discoveries made on Cuciulata at
"Stogul lui Cotofan" show two culture layers from Bronze Age, one from
Schnekemberg culture and one from Geto-Dacian Age.
Based on the archeological materials and stratification
observations it takes into consideration that the dacian location "Stogul
lui Cotofan" dates from the second half of I century bc and 106 ad when
Dacia was conquered by Romans.
After the devastation of "Stogul lui Cotofan"
location the Romans build another location at 4 km N to Hoghiz.
The Cuciulata - Plesita Pietroasa fortifications
supervised the passing through Barsa County. These locations with an intense
living in I century BC - I century ad was preceded by Bronze Age locations
(Scnekemberg culture) and even from Iron Age.
We think that the dacian locations preserved
their existence even during the rule over of Romans because use to be a
Roman location at 4 km of Hoghiz build on a terrace near the Olt river
on Fantana and Ungra villages boards.
The first Romanian document about Cuciulata village
is since 16 July 1372 a historic document from Walachia Prince Vlaicu Voda
(Basarab the second).
The Cuciulata name evolution
We find the Cuciulata village in 1372 as “Vila
Roczolod”.
In 1589 – Kucsalota. In 1637 – Kucstulata and
in 1648 – Kociulata.
